Twelve Dozen Words

I like to study languages, and I have studied quite a few. Some a lot, some a little. Always fun.

People ask me how many languages I speak, and I have to say that I am rather hesitant to give a quick, simple answer, such as "3" because I don't speak all the languages that I have studied to the same degree.

I decided to do a little project, and come up with a list of twelve dozen words and phrases that I know in each of the languages that I have studied. One day I may post about a word in Mandarin, another in Armenian, or I may talk about a phrase I learned in Kaqchikel, which is from the Mayan family of languages.

I haven't decided yet if I want to publish up front the list of words and phrases, or languages for that matter. Maybe it would be more fun if I keep it a surprise.

I will give you a hint though: I will cover a dozen languages by the time this project is over and done with, if it ever ends.

And today, I say we begin with one of the more useful phrases. Ready for it? Here it is:

Thank you!

I'll post again soon. Hope you enjoy this adventure with me. Feel free to comment and share a translation of the word or phrase of the day, or your thoughts about it, ok?
